I post here so rarely lately. I still read LJ faithfully, though.2 comments - Leave a comment
I've been doing NaNoWriMo this month, and met the 50k finishline tonight, a week early. This is a first, and I am quite proud of myself.
And it's good.
My goal now is to finish it before the end of the month. I might be able to, it's possible I am three-quarters of the way to the end. I know how it's going to end now, so I must be fairly close. Still have a series of adventures and rescues lined up.
It is fifty years from now, and millions of years from now. The Earth was split into fragments, each of which passed a different amount of time before they reunited. Societies and species rise and fall, and the interaction of these different shards has been catastrophic in part, wondrous in part, and largely quite weird.
The story centers around the Corwin family. The older brother was drafted into a war against the zombie hordes coming out of the Arabian desert, but deserts when his unit is overrun, and discovers there is an intelligence directing the zombies.
The younger son, blind and shut-in for most of his life, has been witness to a horrible mutilation of his father and the other members of his strange, cultic church. The church leader has survived, and together with the boy, flees across the world.
Mad scientists, demons, intelligent bugs, bureaucrats and just about anything you can think of exist on the Patchwork Planet, and the brothers must pass through most of it to find safety -- and each other.

*I am not attached to this title. "Shattered World" or some variation would be preferable, but something with that name seems to already exist.
